[per press association.] A 801 l in the Dust. Auckland, To-day. A horse, with a trap attached, bolted down Walsey street to-day. The trap collided with an iron pillar verandah, carrying it away. The occupants were thrown out and slightly injured. A New Church. The foundation-stone of a large Wesleyan church was laid yesterday, with much ceremony. Only a Pauper whom Nobody Owns. Complaints are made of the irreverent treatment of the pauper dead. Their coffins are frequently placed in the graves half an hour before the arrival of the clergyman.

Lucky Consultationists. The winning numbers in Theodore Brown’s LIO,OOO sweep were Zulu, 8,678; Czar, 1,233; and Sweetmeat, 1840. The names of the holders of these numbers have not been disclosed. Sir William Fox’s Candidature. Maeton, To-day. Sir William Fox addressed a crowded meeting' last evening, and received a unanimous vote of confidence and thanks. A Strike Terminated. Wellington, To-day. The Westport colliers’ strike is ended, the miners having agreed to a fortnight’s notice on both sides. More Reinforcements. The Stella left during last night for Picton to embark the Marlborough Volunteers for Opunake. Anglo-Jewish Association. A branch of the Anglo-Jewish Association, the object of which is to promote education in the Fast, has been established here. The Weed. A Mr Edmonds, from Fiji, is here with some excellent samples of tobacco leaf grown in Fiji, and is trying to get a company formed to establish a tobacco manufactory. He says he could supply fifty tons of leaf during the first year at from 9d to Is per lb delivered here. The estimated capital required is L 2,009. Rallying Up. The Hinemoa arrived at Opunake at daylight and disembarked the Wellington Volunteers, who, after a short rest, march for Rahotu. The Stella left Picton at eight o’clock this morning with the Hon. Major Bailie and two officers and fortyseven men of the Marlborough Volunteers for Opunake. Mr Fish and His Political Creed. Dunedin, To-day. Mr Fish received a vote of confidence at South Ward last night. He said he would support the Government generally, but censured them for not acting earlier on Mr Bryce’s advice. He said he was an uncompromising free-taader, a secularist in regard to education, and he will vigorously oppose the introduction of the Bible in schools, also local option, unless accompanied with compensation. Fatal Termination to a Tramway Accident.

Adams, a boy who was run over by a tramcar a fortnight ago, at the Water of Leith, died to-day from lockjaw.
