V R.C. SPRING MEETING. Second Day—Tuesday, Nov. 1. [by cable.] Melbockne, Yesterday. The weather to-day was glorious, and a large concourse of spectators assembled on the course to witness the running for the twenty-first Melbourne Cup, which resulted as follows : Melbourne Cup. Ahandicapsweepstakes of 20 so vs. each, 10 ft., or 5 only if declared before 4 p.m. on Monday, Bth August, with 500 added. The winner of the A. J.C. or Y.R.C. Derby to cany 6st. 121 b. if handicapped below that weight, and the winner of any handicap race of the value of 100 sovs. after the declaration of the weights to carry Slbfl. extra ; of any such race of the value of 200 sovs., 5 lbs. extra ; of any such race of the value of 500 sovs., 7 lbs. extra. Somnus cut out the running for the first three-quarters of a mile, closely followed by Santa Claus and Zulu. Six furlongs from home Zulu took the lead, and was never headed, winning by two lengths.
