MR WASON AT WILLOWBY.

Mr Waaon met the electors of this district yesterday evening. On the motion of Mr Clarke, Mr Chapman was voted to the chair, who briefly, and with a few appriate remarks, introduced Mr Waaon, a candidate at the approaching election. Mr Waaon spoke for nearly an hour on

the various important matters before the electors, dealing especially with the present Property-Tax, and the equality and justice of its incidence and the aDsarditjr of a sliding land tax, and the general unfairness of anincome tax.

In reply to Mr Clarke, Mr Wason expressed his views on the questions submitted by the Central Farmer’s Aaaodation, of Christchurch, to the apparently entire satisfaction of the audience.

In reply to Mr Williams, Mr Wason approved of the present system of education, and also approved Bible reading in schools, but not by the schoolmaster, or in ordinary school hours, but by the upper children of the school.

In reply to another elector, hesaidbe en- - tirely approved of the Road Boards having power to appropriate their funds towards the abatement o: the bird nnisanoe. In reply to Mr Chapman, he approved ■— of the Railways Construction and land Bill of the Government. * -

On, the motion of Mr Williams, seconded by Mr Aitken, a unanimous vote of thanks was tendered to Mr Wason for his address.

Mr Wason in thanking the audience for the very considerate hearing they had given him, moved a vote of thanks to the chair, and one of the most orderly andattentive meetings we have seen dispersed. -
