Australian tallow, best beef, 34s 6d; best mutton, 365. The Land Bill. In the House of Commons to-day the postponed ciauses of the Irish Land Bill were passed through Committee, after debate. The Bill was reported to the House with amendments, and the third reading fixed for next sitting. The Land Commission. In the course of to-day’s sitting the appointments to the Irish Land Commission were approved by the House of Commons without opposition. Desertions. Telegrams are to hand from Tunis announcing that numerous desertions are taking place from the Tunisian army owing to the strong feeling among the troops of sympathy with the rising of the Arab tribes. AUSTRALIAN. [per reuter’s agency.] The Ferret Cases. Melbourne, July 21. The trial of Henderson, Wright, and Wallace of the steamship Ferret, concluded to-day. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of conspiracy to defraud the Customs and intending pur-

chasers, and guilty with extenuating circumstances on the other counts of the indictment, as there was a want of evidence regarding • e ownership of the vessel. Sentence vas deferred until Saturday next. The Detached SquadronSydney, July 21. The vessels comprising the detached squadron, except the Bacchante, leave on Saturday for Auckland. Small Pox. A woman and her child among those at the quarantine station who are isolated from the small pox patients, have been attacked with the disease in a mild form. No fresh cases have occuredr in the city since the 15th inst. International Exhibition. Adelaide, July 21. The Local International Exhibition was opened to-day by his Excellency the Governor, in the presence of an assemblage of several thousand persons, including members of the Ministry, the Chief Justice, the Mayor of Adelaide, and the members of both Houses of Parliament. The opening ceremony passed off most successfully, and was concluded with the singing of an inaugural cantata. The exhibits in the building are already in a forward state. Arrival of the Orient. Arrived, this morning—Orient Company’s steamship Orient, which left Plymouth on June nth. What is It ? Brisbane, To-day. Three children living in South Brisbane were examined by doctors yesterday with the object of ascertaining whether they are suffering from small pox. The doctors believe they are attacked with that disease, but are unable yet to decide definitely.
