Affairs iii Tunis. In the House of Commons to-day a question was put to the Premier with a view of ascertaining the intention of the British Government in regard to the present state of affairs in Tunis. In reply Mr Gladstone stated that diplomatic communications were passing between the Foreign Office and the French Government in reference to Tunisian affairs, and some decision would shortly be arrived at as to the action, if any, to be taken by England. The Mails. The Australian and New Zealand mails via Suez and Brindisi, which left Melbourne on June 7th, were delivered here to-day. Getting Through with It. London, July 20. In the House of Commons last night the Irish Land Bill was further considered in committee, when the remaining clauses to the last were duly passed. A few clauses, which have been postponed during the progress of the Bill in committee, will now be brought up for final consideration. The Wimbledon Meeting. At the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association at Wimbledon, the Queen’s Prize (second stage), consisting of Association’s gold medal and La so, has been won by Private Deck, of the 3rd Devon Volunteer Corps, who made a score of 86 marks, the highest score on record. The Fisheries Dispute. Telegrams to hand from America state that, despite the settlement of the Fortune Bay fisheries dispute, which was arrived at last month, a fresh difference has now arisen between American and Canadian fishermen regarding the rights of former in Newfoundland waters. Communications have already passed between the American and English Governments in regard to the point now in dispute. The War in Tunis. Paris, July 19. Telegrams have been received to-day from Tunis reporting that notwithstanding the success of the French troops at Sfax the insurgents, encouraged by the inactivity recently manifested by the Tunisian forces, are daily increasing in boldness, and are raiding the country in'all directions. To-day bodies of armed and mounted Arabs approached to within a short distance of the city in their predatory incursions, and news to hand from outlying districts reports , that the revolt is still spreading, and that the Arabs are rising to arms in large numbers.
