Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday afternoon. Mr Alfred Harrison reports for week ending July 9, as follows : On Tuesday, July 5, 1 held a sale of furniture and effects for Mr Wm. Clarke, Burnett street, when a particularly heat {and well-cared for lot of goods were disposed of, the whole selling remarkably well. On Saturday, July 9, I held my weekly sale at my yards. 4 hacks were entered and 1 draught; the whole lot were sold to the satisfaction of those by whom they were yarded; also 1 cow. 26 pigs sold at prices a trifle above late values. Fowls brought 2s to 3s Id per pair; ducks, 4s 3d per pair; turkeys, 10s perpiair; rabbits. Is lOd per pair; haras, 8d per lb; bacon, 4d to 6£d; cheese, 4d to 4jd; potatoes, L2 to L 3 per ton; a good sample of medium size will bring the latter price, but too frequently all sizes are mixed, when it is difhcult to get even L2 per ton. If farmers would but understand this they would be large gainers. Wheat, seconds, Is 6d to 2s per bushel; barley, seconds, Is 6d to 2s per bushel; oats, 2s per bushel. A large quantity of sundries found a really good sale. Later in the afternoon I held a sale of canaries, parrots, finches, and other birds of beautiful plumage. The whole were disposed of, with the exception of two valuable parrots. A fair sale was concluded, the attendance being good throughout.
