LATE CAPE NEWS.

The Transvaal question has almost dropped out of notice. The Royal Commission is supposed to be at Pretoria; but the telegraph line being down there is very little information on the subject. Matters seems to be quieting down, and trade is going back to its old channels. Most alarming rumors are continually being circulated, but may be discredited, as emanating from disappointed speculators. The Cape Government have introduced a scheme for the extension of the three main lines still further into the interior, at a cost of L 5,000,000. The Bill has been read a second time, and has nearly passed through committee. The Basutos are collecting the fines inflicted on them, and submission ta Sir Hercules Robinson’s award is fully expected. The Customs dues in this colony shows a large increase.
