The Harbor Board took ovet from the engineer, Mr Rees, his control of the harbor works this morning. Native Meeting. A large native meeting is to be held at -Parihaka shortly. A large number of natives are out shooting wild birds fop it. Frozen Meat Company. A meeting of gentlemen interested in the export of frozen meat and dairy produce was held at Parliament Building this afternoon, several members of Parliament being present. It -was decided to form a company, with a capital of. L 20,000 in L 5 shares. Tlie promoters, so far as they are at' present able to decide, propose to make arrangements for the shipment of as many cargoes as possiblein 1882. A large and influential provisional directory was appointed to take, the necessary steps for the successful floating of the company. It is intended to register the company as soon as 1,000 shares have been applied for. Customs Revenue. , The, Customs revenue for the month amounted to L 14,904, and for the quarter to L 46.229. No Hope. Nelson, To-day. There are no tidings of the schooner Dido, three weeks .out from Lyttelton to Waitapu in ballast','and all hopes of her safety now are given up.- It is thought, that in the severe squalls, which were experienced after her leaving Lyttelton, the, ballast shifted and. she capsized. The vessel was’, insured in. the Now. Zealand Insurance Company’s office for LBOO, half of which c was re-insured in , the South British Company. Hokitika Railway Meeting. Hokitika, Yesterday. A very large public meeting was held in the Town Hall this evening, to urge upon the Government the necessity for completing the Hokitika-Grey railway, the Hokitika harbor works, and the Mikonui water race. The following re< solution was carried —“ That in view of the large sums of money already expended upon the Hokitika-Grey railway, Hokitika harbor works, and the Mikonui water race, the non-completion of which renders such expenditure valueless (excepting in the case of the harbor works), and in view of the great benefit that would accrue to this district and the colony generally, this meeting strongly urges the Government to take steps to complete the same, so as to retain and increase the population, and develop the chief industries of the country. It was resolved to telegraph copies of the above to the Premier, the Minister for Public Works and Mines, and the representatives of the district.

Customs Revenue. Gueymodth, Yesterday. The Customs’ duties collected at Greymouth last month was L 2,637, and for the corresponding month in 1880, L 3,728. The Customs for the June quarter were L 7.731, and for the corresponding quarter in 1880, L 9,542. The gold duty for the quarter amounted to L 1,702. Small Fox. Dunedin, Yesterday. There are no fresh cases or signs of small pox on board the Charles Worsley. Purchasers of the Brewery. Messrs Hebert Neill and John Boyd ars the purchasers of Keat and McCarthy’s brewery, not Messrs Neal Bros., as reported yesterday.
