[per press association.] The Rotomahana. Auckland, Yesterday. The Rotomahana brought neither passengers nor mails, owing to doubts of being quarantined. Case’s Body Found. The Tangihua picked up a boat, drifting near Mangowhere, this morning, containing the lifeless body of John Case. Deceased had been working at Downing’s Orchard. Motuihihi Quarantine Station. Mr Hales, District Engineer, visited the Quarantine Station at Motuihihi, in the Customs launch, for the purpose of seeing personally the real requirements of the place. Criminal Calendar. The criminal calendar comprises seventeen prisoners, five for offences against property, one for horse-stealing, one for unlawfully wounding, one for stabbing, one for perjury, two for rape, two for criminal libel, one for perjury, and two for arson. Vital Statistics. Napier, To-day. The vital statistics for the month of June are as follows: —Births, 26} marriages, 6 ; deaths, 6. Customs’ Revenue. The Customs’ revenue for the quarter has been L 9,892 14s lOd, out of which beer paid L 417 6s. Skeletons Found.. On removing a cottage in town, two skeletons were found. They are supposed, by the age of the bones, to be the remains of natives. Publicans' Licenses. Wellington, Yesterday. The number of publicans’ licenses taken out to-day for Wellington city and country district was ninety - eight. The fees amounted to L 4,200. Intercolonial Weather. gale reported yesterday at Booda, t of Adelaide, has now extended across the j continent to Brisbane, and has changed to a south-west gale at Booda. The highest , lavometer, 30.4, is in the interior at Alice Springs, and the lowest at Hobart, 29.4. At, Sydney it is 30. There is evidently \ anfextensive disturbance coining rapidly i eastward. ! The Unemployed. I About a dozen of the unemployed were sent to Patea this afternoon, where employment has been found for them by the Government. The HinemoaThe Hinemoa left for Lyttelton at 3.30 this afternoon, taking several members of Parliament who intend visiting the Dunedin Exhibition. Vital Statistics. During the month ninety-eight births and twenty-nine deaths were registered in Wellington district ; eleven marriage certificates were issued during the same period. Waste Lands Board. At a meeting of the Waste Lands Board, the chief surveyor reported that surveys of the following blocks were in progress for settlement purposes ; —5,000 acres near Otaki; 5,000 acres, Tokomaru block; 5,000 acres, Oakanga; 10,000 acres east and south of Mauriceville, and 1,500 acres west of Carterton. The survey of the Wanganui harbor endowment block of 25,000 acres was reported to be well advanced, and a large portion will shortly be ready for sale. Committed. Wellington, To-day. Henry Ferris, charged with the larceny as a bailee of a piano, was committed for trial. He was arrested on the eve of his departure for Newcastle. A Miserable End. Ellen Flowers, an old offender, died in the gaol yesterday. An inquest will be held this afternoon. Sale of a Brewery. Dunedin, Yesterday. Messrs Keast and McCarthy’s brewery business has been sold to Messrs Neill Bros, for LIB,OOO. Customs Revenue. The Customs revenue for the six months ended to-day at Dunedin, was L 207,348 6s 6d, against L 182,929 18s 9d for the same period last year. Small-Pox. Bacon, a seaman on board the Charles Wcrsley, whose father resides at Port Chalmers, was the first seized. He was unvaccinated, and is very badly marked. The carpenter and another seaman, who were vaccinated, were only very slightly marked. Half a dozen passengers on board were kept aft, and escaped. The name of. the mate who died was Peregrine, and he was 41 years of age. Customs Revenue. Dunedin, To-day. The Customs revenue for the past six month? has been L 207,384, against L 182,929 for the corresponding half year in 1880. The Unemployed. Mr Stout, at the request of the unemployed, having telegraphed to the Premier suggesting the desirability of work being . found for them, Mr Hall replies—“ lam very sorry to learn from your telegram that employment is scarce ; the Government have no works on which they could offer employment, but will be ready to asi sist benevolent committees if necessary.” Sporting.
