THE PUBLICANS AND THE LICENSING BILL.
[by telegraph.] Wellington, To-day. A meeting of the delegates of the Licensing Association was held this morning,, representatives from Auckland, Napier, Otago, Southland, and Wellington being present. It was decided, upon the re-committal of the Licensing Bill, to endeavor to have the following clauses amended :—26th, relating to beneficial interest; 126th, -re, barmaids, asking that ten hours be the limit. In reference to fees, it was decided to suggest that they be reduced Ljo, or that the LSO cover the fee for extra bar. It was also decided to endeavor to have a clause relating to Sunday hours inserted. A deputation of Wellington licensed victuallers waited on the city members to-day, urging them to endeavor to have" the' Licensing Bill thrown out. Messrs Hutchinson and Levein replied that while they agreed that several amendments were necessary the Bill was a right one in principle, and if thrown out that would be prejudicial to the interests of the public.
