The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is I 1,040,000 quarters. Australian tallow, 1 has risen is per cwt; best beef is quoted ; at 35s 6d; best mutton, 37s 6d. Best 1 Scotch pig iron, No. 1, f.0.b., in Clyde has risen to 48s 6d per ton. At the wool auction to-day, 7,800 bales were catalogued. There was a , firm and active demand. Renewal of the Anglo-French Commercial Treaty. In consequence of the slow progress which has hitherto been made in the negotiations for a renewal of the commercial treaties of iB6O and 1873 between France and England, the French Government has agreed to prolong the existing treaties which would otherwise terminate in October next for a further period of three months. French Duties on British Goods. There is at the present time much agitation in commercial circles throughout England against the proposed intention of the French Government to increase the duties imposed on British goods. The determination delays negotiations for a renewal of AngloFrench commercial treaties, and public feeling is against their renewal without a reduction of French import duties, which are increasing daily. Attack on the Spanish Colonists in Algeria. Paris, June 24. Intelligence has been received of a terrible occurrence in Algeria. A large body of native Arabs made an overwhelming attack on the Spanish colonists resident at Saida. The latter could offer but feeble resistence, and were completely overcome, over 100 being killed and 400 taken prisoners, ; the majority being seriously, wounded. Proposed Reduction in Russian Amy.
