I HAVE heard persons who ought to know remark that “ Rome was not built in a day,” nor, for that matter, was Ashburton, notwithstanding that the latter has been called a “jumped-up town.” I don’t believe the site of Ashburton will revert to a sheep-walk again quite so soon as some people imagine, and it’s being jumped upon in this way won’t hinder its advancement in the least.
