IN THE DISTRICT COURT OF ASHBURTON, HOLDEN AT ASHBURTON. In the matter of the Debtors and Creditors Act, 1876, and the several Acts amending the same, and in the matter of a bankruptcy petition by Elizabeth Lucas against WILLIAM SUTHER LAND, of Greenstreet, in the County of Ashburton, farmer. Upon the hearing of this petition, and upon-"proof satisfactory to the Court of the debt of the petitioner, and of the act of bankruptcy alleged to have been committed by the said William Sutherland having been given, it is ordered that the said William Sutherland be, and he is, hereby adjudged bankrupt. The first meeting of the creditors of the abovenamed William Sutherland is hereby summoned to be held at the District Court, Ashburton, on WEDNESDAY, the twenty-second day of June, 1881, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, and that the Court has ordered the bankrupt to attend thereat. Horticultural Society. —A meeting of the Horticultural Society takes place this erening, at which a very interesting paper will be read by Mr Sealy. Masonic.— A meeting of the St John’s lodge, E. C., takes place this evening, at the Masonic Hall, Tancred street. The election of officers will be proceeded with, and also the consideration of the Financial Committee’s report. We are desired to invite visiting brethren. “Happy Hours.” —This talented family (consisting of Mr, Mrs, and Miss Hart), assisted by Mr Walter Kerby, gave another of their excellent performances in the Town Hall last night, to a crowded house indeed, the audience was the largest that has for some time past favored any performance here, and the result must have been very gratifying te the troupe. The excellent acting of both Mr and Mrs Hart elicited hearty rounds of applause, and the laughter was continuous throughout. The pieces played were “Diamond Cut Diamond” and “My Wife's Relations,” both of which were interspersed with some excellent comic and character songs. ! We must not omit to mention the pleasing manner in which the pianoforte accompaniments were rendered by Miss flare. At the conclusion of the first part of the performance Mr Hart thanked the audience for their presence, and stated that, as.he had arranged to visit Australia shortly, he regretted being unable to give another performance in Ashburton for some time. Mr Walter Kerby, the business manager, proved himself in every way one of the most efficient, painstaking, and courteous in his particular profession that has yet visited Ashburton.
