A settlement of the difficulty between the British and the American Governments in connection with the Fortune Bay fishery dispute has been arrived at. In accordance with the terms of agreement come to, England will pay Li 5,000 as compensation. Consols and Secnrltes. Consols remain at 102 54. New Zealand securities are unchanged, the quotations being —Five per Cent. 10.40 Loan, 105; 5 per Cent. 1889 Loan, 105 ; per Cent., 1879-1904 Loan, 103. Commercial. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, continues at 495, and New Zealand at 455. Adelaide flour is quoted at 33s fid, ex warehouse. Australian tallow, best beef, 34s fid; best mutton, 375. The Land Bill. In the House of Commons to-day> the Irish Land Bill came up for consideration in Committee of the whole. On the first clause being moved, a long and animated debate ensued, and still continues up to the present time. Fifteen hundred amendments to' the various clauses of the measure have been entered on the Order Paper, and notices continue ,to be, given of fresh amendments.
The Wool Sales. At the wool sales to-day, 8,400 bales were offered, making a total of 168,000 bales catalogued since the opening. A good-demand was experienced for the various lots offered. Murder of ; a Journalist. Paris, May 30. News has been received that a correspondent of a French journal who was with the French army in Tunis, has been murdered at Bejar. His assassin has not been arrested.
