—*- Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday afternoon. Mr Alfred Harrison reports of his Saturday’s sale as follows : Several hacks were sold, but prices ranged low as usual. Bigs sold fairly well as follows :—1 at 275, 2at 31s, lat 10s 6d, 6at 3s 6d, 4at ss. Implements, especially ploughs and harrows, brought good prices. Bowls, 2s to 2s 6d per pair ; rabbits, Is 7d per pair; potatoes 30s to 55s per ton ; onions, -fd to l£d per lb; oranges, 6s 6d per case ; chick wheat, Is 3d to Is 9d per bushel; peas, Is 6d per bushel; cheese, 2d to 4d per lb. Pork, 2|d to Sjd per lb. A quantity of harness and sundries sold fairly well. The attendance was good, but not so largo as is generally the case at this season of the year. English Markets. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following, dated London, May 10th, 1881:—Wool —The sales opened on the 10th instant at an average decline fcof 51 per cent, on last sales’ closing rates. The sales comprise about 337,000 bales. 26,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. Thejopening catalogue contained 5,100 bales. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is active.
