Fatal Accident. —A man named James Hedley, a carpenter, fell from a ladder while working at the extension of the Edinburgh Castle Hotel, Auckland, and died in a few hours. He leaves a wife and five children. At the inquest yesterday, a verdict of “ Accidental Death” was returned. Attempt to Upset an Engine.—A telegram from Taranaki on Thursday says :— lntelligence has just reached town of an attempt made on Tuesday evening to throw a ballast-engine off the line between Elthani and Ngaire. A large stone was put upon the line, and, before the engine could be stopped, it had run against the obstruction wich' such force as to cause the iron-girders to bend almost double. No one was hurt.
