Mr Williams, late principal of the Swansea Normal College, who arrived here by the ship Sydneyham, has been appointed to the vacant mastership of the Dunedin High School. Tne Knight and the Lawyer. Mr F. A. Whitaker writes a long letter to the Waikato Times, replying to Sir G. Grey, whom he charges with procuring for the Thames expenditure on useless reclaclamation and other works. Enforce It. The Resident Magistrate requested the Sergeant of police to enforce the provisions of the Employment of Females’ Act, which has hitherto been a dead letter in Auckland. Burning of a Brewery. Beedle’s (late Suiter’s) brewery, on the North road, was totally destroyed by fire at 3 o’clock this morning. It was burned down about two years ago. The insurance is L2OOO, in various offices.

Completely Buoyed. Captain Fairchild, in the Stella, has completed the buoying of Wangarei harbor, so that vessels of any tonnage can get to Limestone Island to load coal. Safely Home. Dunedin, To-day. The Hew Zealand Shipping Company have received advices of the arrival at London of the Piako, from Port Chalmers. A Foolhardy Captain. Port Chalmers, To-day. Captain M'Callum has just received a telegram from the Heads stating that the Peruvian barque Fray Bents has anchored outside the Heads in six fathoms of water. Pilot Patton is on board, but the captain will do nothing for him. He will neither shift out nor in for safety, and the ship is in great danger. Cockswain Milne requests Captain M'Callum to communicate with the agents. The barque is now anchored half a mile outside the Heads. She will be towed in to-night.
