[per reuter's agency.] The Conservatives and the Land Bill. London, May 2. In the House of Commons this evening the Irish Land Bill again came up for discussion on the second reading. In the course of the debate Lord Elcho, member for Haddingtonshire, acting on behalf of the Conservatives, made a speech in which he strongly denounced the provisions of the Bill, and concluded by moving its rejection as a whole. The discussion on the motion continues. The Parliamentary Oath. A Ministerial Bill has been introduced by the Right Hon. W. E, Gladstone, providing that persons who are permitted to affirm in Courts of law should be authorised to make affimation on their entry to Parliament, in place of the customary oaths of allegiance. Beaconsfield’s Monument. Mr Labouchere, M.P. for Northhampton, has given notice in the House of Commons of a motion condemning the proposal to be submitted shortly by the Premier that funds should be voted for the erection of a monument to the late Earl Beaconsfield in Westminster Abbey, The Markets. The Stock Exchange is closed, owing to to-day being a bank holiday, and there are no changes to report in the money market. Adelaide wheat has declined is, and is now quoted at 48s, ex warehouse. New Zealand wheat, ex ship, remains at 455. Australian tallow is without quotable change. The Frontier Difficulty Settled. In the House of Commons to-day Sir Charles Dilke, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, made a statement regarding the negotiations for the settlement of the Turko-Greek difficulty. He announces that the Sultan had finally accepted the understanding which had been arrived at between the Porte and the Hellenic Government. More Land League ArrestsLondon, May 3. Mr John Dillon, M.P. for Tipperary, and one of the chief agitators of the Land League, has been arrested in Ireland, on a warrant issued by the Viceroy, under the Coercion Act.
