The Committee on awards of frhte International Exhibition has awarded the Emperor of Germany’s special prize to Messrs De Castella and Rowan, of St Herbert’s vineyard, for Australian wines ; there were thirteen competitor for the prize. The Meteorological Conference. The Meteorological Conference continues its sittings. It has been decided to arrange for the exchange of weather telegrams between New Zealand and Australia.
John in the Coal Mines. Sydney, April 25. The miners employed in the Newcastle colleries have made arrangements for holding a mass meeting for the purpose of considering Chinese immigration, and the employment of Chinese labor in the coal mines. Stopped their Little Game. Sydney, To-day. The police made a successful raid last night upon a Chinese gambling house. Twenty-nine Chinamen, who were taking part in the game, were arrested.
