Ashburton Guardian Office, Monday afternoon. Mr Alfred Harrison reports for Saturday’s sale as follows ; —Quite a mob of hacks and draught horses were entered. Six of the former were disposed of at what for the times is a fair figure ; the draughts in every case, however, had to be passed in. Pigs still hold their own, every lot being cleared to owners’ satisfaction. The prices realised were as follows : —lO stickers at Bs, 9s, and 10s ; 1 sow L2. Fowls were well represented, many of the pens containing fair birds, both as to quality and breed. Polands, 4s 9d per pair ; Dorkings, 4s per pair ; pullets and killing birds, 2s 6d to 3s 4d per pair. Bantams, 3s 3d per pair ; ducks, 4s per pair. Four greyhound pups, seven weeks old; sold at 12s 6d to 22s 6d each. Potatoes brought 35s to L 3 5s per ton, the latter price being obtained for a really good sample of blue Derwents. Chick feed (inferior), sold from 3s Gd to 5s per bags carrots, L2 per ton ; onions, f d to Id per lb ; cheese, 4d to 41 d per lb. A small consignment of bacon sold readily ; a really good quality would find a good market. The attendance was good, though not so large as usual.
