MOUNT HUTT ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was held in the office, Methven, on Thursday last. Present—Messrs Julian Jackson (in the chair), M'Millan, arid Chapman. The Overseer was instructed not to employ any more day hands, unless for very small jobs, but to let all work by contract.
Mr W. H. Barnes, bridge contractor, made an offer to the Board to put and keep in order, the large cutting leading to the gorge ferry. Mr Barnes’ offer was accepted. A letter was read from Mr Fereday, solicitor, re transfer of one acre of land purchased from Mr Henderson. —The Clerk was instructed to forward Mr Fereday a cheque for the land.
The County Council wrote requesting that a notice be put up in the office, cautioning persons from interfering with the water race.—Notice ordered to be put up. Messrs Mason and Struthers wrote, in reply to the Clerk’s letter, asking for information as to the size of sheet iron required for stable, as the length had not been given.—The Clerk was instructed to write for the information. A circular was received from the Manawatu County Council, re land fund.—The chairman was intructed to reply. The Broom Park drainage was left to the Chairman and Overseer to deal with. The Overseer was instructed to call for tenders for forming a portion of the road leading from the back track to the main road. Tenders to bo in by the next meeting- ... Tenders were opened for the following works :—Shingling 07 chains of the Mount Hutt and Alford Forest roads, J. Devery accepted, at lid per yard ; formation of about 12 chains of the Station road, V. Soland, at 15s per chain. After passing accounts to the amount of L 203 13s, the Board adjourned. A meeting of ratepayers was then held to inspect the balance-sheet for the previous year. Everything was found to be satisfactory. After this, another meeting of; ratepayers was held for the purpose of closing several roads in the district. As there was no opposition, it was unanimously agreed to close the said roads; they being of no public benefit. 1
