Tauranga, To-day., Mr Mclvor, a chemist, from Melbourne, has been sent over by some Melbourne capitalists to inspect the sulphur at White Island, and report whether it would be advisable to erect a chemical manufactory establishment for the preparation of sulphuric acid and chemical manure. Mr Mclvor has returned, and is favorably impressed with the resources of the island, and ho considers that a very important industry can be maintained. Wilson’s Sulphur Works at Tauranga will be taken over and improved. Gold-find near Tauranga.

The Land Board, on the casting vote of the Chief Commissioner, granted the Caswell Sound Marble Company seven years’ license of the quarry, extending over 320 acres. The company applied fur the area by means of four applications, which were put in by four shareholders, each asking for 80 acres—the maximum allowed to be leased to one individual by the Laud Act.
