(Per Press Association.) The Fire at Guthrie and Lamach’s. Auckland, Saturday. The fire at Guthrie and Larnach’s mill broke out at two o’clock yesterday morning. It was supposed to be purely accidental, caused by a spark from a chimney. About 150,000 feet of sawn timber were stacked near by, and were also destroyed. Themill wasinsuredforLl,looin the South British Company ; the timber was uninsured. The estimated loss is two or three thousand pounds in excess of the insurance. The Havelock Enquiry. Blenheim, To-day. The Havelock enquiry concluded on Saturday. Mr McNab, for Firth, asked the Commissioners if they would make their decision known then. The Commissioners replied that they had to report to the Governor, and the result no doubt would shortly be made known. An Offending Civil Servant. Wellington, To-day. At the Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning, William Michael Downes was charged with illegally removing stamps from certain papers, and remanded until Friday, for the purpose of bringing up an important witness from Christchurch. A Fatal Fall. ■ Dunedin, To-day. A man named Sydney Stock fell from the mountain into lake Wakatipu early this morning, the body was recovered some hours afterwards.
