(Per Press Association.) Destructive Fire. Auckland, To-day. Guthrie and Larnach’a largo sawmill, at Manukau, has been totally destroyed by fire. The machinery was capable of cutting 200,000 feet per week. Details have not yet been received. Gone Ashore. The American whaler James, Captain Gifford, has gone ashore on the rocks, at Awanui, having mistaken that port for Monganui. The crew are discharging the oil, and hope to get the ship off. An Awkward Capsize. A boat capsized on the Hokianga river, containing five persons, who were rescued by the natives after being half an hour in the water. Mrs McLennan, oneof the occupants of the boat, was only three weeks recovered from her confinement, and had an infant in arms, to which she clung until rescued. She is ill from the shock, but it is hoped not seriously. Fire. Dunedin, Yesterday. The dwelling of R. H. Bailey, watchmaker, in the Cannongato, was totally destroyed by fire last night, owing to its inaccessibility. Mrs Bailey was in the act of retiring, with a kerosene lamp in her hand, when it exploded. Bailey is ininsured for LIOO in the Norwich Union. He estimates his loss at L3OO above that sum. The house, which belonged to James Smellio, North Taieri, is insured in the Standard for L2OO. Frozen Meat-

Invercargill, YesterdajL At a largely attended meeting of gentlemen interested in the export of frozen meat, a committee was appointed to obtain information as to the amount of support they are likely to receive. Great interest is taken in the matter, and very likely the movement will prove successful. Concealment of Birth. Invercargill, To-day. At the inquest on the body of an infant found yesterday, the jury returned a verdict that there was no evidence to show that it was born alive. Kathleen McCarthy admitted being the mother, and she was arrested and remanded on a charge of concealment of birth.
