OUR CHESS CLUB.

To the Editor. Sir, —Could you inform me if our local Chess Club has ceased to exist; or, if not, why no steps have been taken in the matter of arrangements for the ensuing season. Last year our representatives got on very well in the matches in which they participated, the only fault then being “want of practice,” which waa excusable considering the youth of the Club. This year, however, if they intend doing battle for the honor of the town the same excuse will be unavailable, for on themselves will fall the blame if they do not use their best efforts for improvement in the matter of practice.—l am, Ac., King’s Pawn. [The Ashburton Chess Club is still in existence, but we are unable to give our correspondent any answer to the second question contained in his communication. —Ed. (?.]
