RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT

ASH BU ETON. —To-Day. (Before J. N. Wood, Esq., R.M.) LARCENY. John Kelly, alias “ Kelly the Rake,” was brought up charged with the larceny of a pair of blankets, one pair of boots, and one handkerchief, the property of S. Lucas. Samuel Lucas identified the property as his. He was engaged on some work at a farm near Chertsey, and was camping out in a tent there. Left the tent to go to Chertsey for some stores, and on his return he met the prisoner coming from the direction of the tent. On reaching the tent he found it was ransacked, and these things now produced in Court, he identified as the property taken out of the tent. Sergeant Felton said there were a number of previous convictions against the prisoner, and that ho had just been let out of the lock-up for drunkenness. After hearing the arresting constable’s evidence, the prisoner was sent to gaol for six months, with hard labor. ALLEGED >ORGERY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. James Scott was brought up, on remand, charged with these offences. The accused had been out on bail and was re-arrested on the information of R. H. Rhodes for embezzling the sum of L2fi 15s on one charge, and Ll 7 4s 2d on another. The accused was remanded until 11 o’clock on Friday next, bail being allowed, himself in L 509 and two suritiea in L 250 each.
