{Per Reuter's Agency.) For His Health’s Sake. Melbourne. To-day. Major W. C. Smith, the Victorian Minister for Education, will shortly proceed to New Zealand on a trip for his health. Railway ExpenditureSydney, March 17. In the Legislative Assembly to-day, the Hon. John Lackey, Minister far Public Works, introduced his Public Works Statement, in the course of which he announced that it was proposed to undertake the construction of several additional lines of railway in the colony, involving an expenditure of 1-8,750,000. The debate on the proposal was opened, but adjourned till Tuesday next. Aquatics. A sculling match for Lxoo a-side took place to-day, on the Clarence river, near Grafton, between Rush and Pearce, two well-known oarsmen, and resulted in a victory for the former. Unsatisfactory. The news from Mount Brown diggings gives a very unsatisfactory account of the state of the field.
