RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT
ASHBURTON.—To-D at. (Before His Worship the Mayor.) ALLEGED FORGERY. James Scott, lately manager at the Chatmoss estate, was brought up charged with forging a receipt. Mr Ireland appeared for the accused, and asked for a remand until Saturday next, as the witnesses for the defence were not present. Sergeant Felton said that the case for the prosecution was at present in the hands of a firm of Christchurch solicitors, and the police had no objection to a remand. His Worship granted a remand until Saturday next, the 19th inst. Bail would be allowed as follows :—Two sureties of L 125 each, and the.accused in the sum of L 250.
