ASHBURTON v. MOUNT SOMERS. This match was played at Mount Somers yesterday, and with the usual punctuality that characterises Ashburton players, only eight of their team rolled up. It will be seen from the scores given below that the match was played by nine men aside, and the scoring was done chiefly by Messrs MacLaren, 31 and 27 ; A. Fooks, 18 ; and Hodder, 15— for Ashburton. For Mount Somers, those who made double figures were—Messrs Tomlinson, 18 ; Bain and Gifkin 16 ; Peter, 13 ; and Burden, 11. The totals were : Ashburton—Bo and 64—144. Mount Somers--75 and 56—131. Majority for Ashburton —l3. The fielding was passable on both sides, but the absence of Wix, Denshire, and Fagan was felt much by Ashburton, and consequently they were weak in bowlers and batsmen.
