The Land Court to-day consented to another adjournment of the Patetere case, Mangahia and the Association having given Judge Symonds an assurance that there was a probability of settling their differences. Relieved Wellington,’ To-day. Whitelaw, the Superintendent of the Lunatic Asylum, has been relieved of his duties, pending the completion of the enquiry into the management of that institution. Ram Fair. The Ram Fair in Carterton on Saturday was a great success, and purchasers were in access of the quantity yarded. The prices were up to ten guides higher than was anticipated for the stock offered. Victimising Boniface. Dunedin, To-day. A daring robbery was perpetrated at Waters’ Prince of Wales Hotel last night, L 175 in cash being stolen from the proprietor’s bedroom. The Three-Card Trick. At the City Court, Mr. Watt convicted Henry Goater of playing the three-card trick at the Races, but, in order to give the defendant a chance of appealing, admitted him to bail to come up for sentence in a month. Forgery. Thomas Hodgetts, for obtaining money by means of forged cheques, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. Sale of Blood Stock. At the sale of the Boorandoora Park yearlings Messrs. Mason and Vallance purchased the Tubal Cain —Topsy colt for 225 guineas, the Tubal Cain —Seashell colt for 200 guineas, and the Tubal Cain —Debenture colt for 25 guineas. J. Cowan, Cromwell, bought the Saunterer —Stookrise filly for 100 guineas. The Tubal Cain—Argosy filly, 70 guineas, the Lurline—Flying Dutchman colt, and the Tubal Cain—Coquette colt, were passed in at 300 guineas.
