The following further Exhibition awards have been announced ;—Second order of merit—B. Petersen and Co,, Christchurch, for silver jugs and cups ; John Alves, Dunedin, for model aerial tramway. Third order of merit—Marcus Sandstein, Christchurch, silver epergne ; Purchell and Co. (?), Christchurch, paper pulp, &c., from New Zealand flax. Fifth order of merit — John B. Stansell, Christchurch, papier mache, tkc., from New Zealand flax. Honorably mentioned —Reid and Duncan, civil engineers, Dunedin, plan of wire rope tramway. Suez Mail. Melbourne, To-day. Arrived—P. and O. Company’s steamship Brindisi, with the inward Suez mail Retired. Owing to a misunderstanding, Swan, of New Zealand, and Baker, have retired from the six days’ walking contest which is now proceeding. Communists in Trouble. Brisbane, To-day. Five escapees from New Caledonia have landed on Stradbrook Island, Morton Bay, in a nude state, and nearly starving. Their immediate arrest has been ordered by the authorities.
