Rakaia Gorge v. Mount Somers
This match was played at Mount Somers on Friday last, and resulted in favor of the latter by 75 runs. The Rakaia Gorge team lost the services of two of their best men, which no doubt made a difference in the result. Messrs. Peacock (Rockwood), and Phillips (The Point), batted for the absentees, while their places in the field were supplied from the opposite team. Bain, in the second innings of Mount Somers, made two very good catches. A most enjoyable day was spent a brilliant sun, accompanied by a gentle breeze, making the weather for cricket such as couldn’t possibly be beaten. We must not omit to notice the bowling of Mr. Bealey, and the batting of Messrs. Clissold, Knight, Bealey, A. Potto, Peter, and Gifkins for their respective sides.
