A BATHING PLACE.

To the Editor. Sik, —An early morning bathe is a luxury which has until lately been denied that portion of the public of Ashburton who have not felt inclined to sacrifice their time by taking a walk to the river. Now, however, a large number of individuals may be seen indulging in a dip in the water running through the Domain, and though the water is not particularly deep, and when disturbed soon becomes muddy, those bathing evidently enjoy their swim. As you have mentioned in your columns already, a dam placed in the Domain for the purpose of deepening the water would be a great boon to the public, and, sir, it has been suggested that if the Borough Council would lend a helping hand subscriptions could be raised in the town for this purpose, and in comparison to the benefits accruing, for a very small sum quite a lengthy stretch of water might be obtained in the upper reach of the stream. I hope, sir, some of our worthy Councillors who have the sanitary condition of the town so much at heart will take the hint, and let us hear something about the matter at the next meeting of the Council. —I am, &o, Bather.
