_— ♦ [by telegraph. ] MoTUEKA, To-(i :V. Mr. Hursthouse addressed the el m otors here last night. He looked upon the idea of repudiation with utter scorn, and, commenting on the way loans have ben . expended, said that all must contribute alike to meet liabilities, notwithstaudidg they had not had a fair amount of expend ;ure. He was against borrowing in future ; i the same way as in the past. He spoke str ngly against the way in which Ministers were chosen. They should be selcctc on account of their ability, not solely because they came from Otago, Auckland, or Canterbury ; and ho -qioke somewhat strongly against the large expenditure in favored Taranaki. fie regretted the resignation of Mr. Bryce, which ho attributed to that gentleman being unable to carry his views in the Ministry that Hiroki should be arrested. He spoke against the payment of members of the Upper House, and said it might bo advantageous to abolish payment of members altogether, and for electorates desiring to return poor men to provide their expenses themselves. He received a unanimous vote of confidence.
