Archdeacon Maunaell delivered an address on the Education Act. He protested strongly against any attempt to re-introdnee denominationalism, but claimed that the New South Wales system of admitting ministers and other qualified persons to give religious instructions, at convenient hours, should be empowered under the Act. Suicide. Wellington, To-day. W. R. Welsh, and old settler at the Taita, committed suicide near his brother’s residence at Opope, on Thursday, by cutting his throat. It is supposed that drink was the cause of the rash act. His body was not found till Sunday. Gold. Dunedin, To-day. The Keep it Dark (Reefton’s) return for the month was 102ozs. retorted gold from 42G tons stone. The Weather. The weather during the past week has been unusually sultry.
