Exhibitions. Ashburton horticultural society. Second Annual Show. SATURDAY, MARCH 5, 1881. The following Special Prizes are offered at the coming Show, viz.:— Best collection of Gladioli —10s. 6d., given by Mr. Jacobson. Best collection of Fruit (amateurs only) —lst prize, 10s. 6d.; second prize, 55.; given by Mr. T. Sealy. Best brace of Cucumbers 7s. 6<L, given by Mr. Simmonds. Heaviest Pumpkin—7s. 6d., given by Mr. Davison. Best three Pot Plants in Flower (amateurs only)—7s. 6d., given by Mr. G. Smith. Best Decorated Epergne (open to all) — 7s. 6d., given by Mr. Smith. Best two Double Fusohias (one light, one dark) —7s. 6d., given by Mr. Poyntz. Best collection of Auriculas (in pots)— 7s. 6d., given by Mr. Broomfield. Best tri-colored Geranium 7s. 6d., given by Mr. Mayo. Best six Window Plants—2ls., given by Mrs. C. Purnell. Best Hand Bouquet (to be made in the Showroom by Girls under 14 years of age)—A handsome Workbox, given by Mr. C. Hardy. Intending Exhibitors are requested to take notice that full Catalogues and Prize Lists, and all particulars, can be obtained at my office, or of any member of the Committee. Prizes will be given for New Zealand grown or manufactured articles only, though Exhibits of any sort will be admitted, more especially the following : Local Industries and Manufactures of all kinds Works of Art Paintings, Printing, Lithographs, &o. Articles of Vertu Pottery Antique and Modern Relics, Coins, &o. Bijouterie Models Collections of Minerals, Specimens of Ores, &c. And any other articles that may assist in fostering and developing any kind of Industry. Exhibitors are requested to make early Application for Space. THE LONGBEACH COACH I THOMAS COTTON wishes to inform the travelling public between Ashburton and Longbeach that he has taken over the. Coach Business from Mr. George Willcocks, and hopes for a continuance of the support hitherto accorded to his predecessor. The fares by Cotton’s coach are exactly 3d. per mile ordinary fares, and l£d. per mile for Saturday return. They are as under— Longbeach to Ashburton, ordinary 55., return Bs. Waterton to Ashburton, 3s. 6cL ordinary, 6s. return. Ashton to Ashburton, 3s. ordinary, 6s, return. Wheatstone to Ashburton, 2s. delordinary, 4s. return. The coach leaves Longbeach daily at 7.30 a.m. , arriving at Ashburton at 10 a. m.; and returns, leaving the Booking Office, Baldwin’s Central Hotel, each day at 4.30 p.m. ; Post Office, 4.45 p.m. 4a ECOOKSON, Wills Street, runs the . MAIL COACH from Ashburton Railway Station to Green Street, Alforc Forest, and Mount Somers, every Tuesday and Friday, returning Wednesday and Saturday at 3 p.m
