(Per Reuter’s Agency.) Frozen Meat and Butter. London, Jan. 19. The steamer Protos, which lef> Melbourne on November 18th with a cargo of fresh meat has arrived here. The meat is reported to be in excellent condition, but there is a doubt as to whether a quantity of butter, which is on board, has arrived in a sound state. Summing Up. Jan. 20. The trial of the Land Leaguers at Dublin still proceeds. The case for the defence has closed, and the J udge’s summing up will now be gone on with. That Frontier. In the House of Commons to-day, Sir Charles Dilke, Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, announced that the Powers had decided to abandon the proposal to arbitrate for the settlement of the Greek frontier question, but would still strive to bring about a complete and peaceful settlement of the difficulty. The Address in Reply. The debate on the Address in Reply was resumed in the House of Commons to-day, and other amendments proposed by Irish members were rejected by overwhelming majorities. The Address was finally carried by an almost unanimous vote of the House. Notes and Gold, The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is Lx 2,875,000. New Zealand* Five per cent.
