(Per Press Association .) Supreme Court. Wellington, To-day. At UlO Supreme Court last night the case of Holmwood v. the Marine Insurance Company was concluded at midnight. The jury returned a verdict for defendant. The Presbyterian Synod. Dunedin, To-day. The Presbyterian Synod agreed that as the Deceased Wife’s Sister Bill had not yet received the Royal assent, it would merely record its regret at passing of the Act, but did not deem it necessary to take further action. The Synod, by 2,6 to 13, carried a resolution appointing a committee to consider the whole question of union with the Northern Church, and to confer with any committee appointed by the latter. , The principal opponents were Dr. Stuart and Rev. Mr." Will. The Rev. Mr. Ryley was nominated Moderator for the ensuing year. - • Arrest. . Adolphe Moritzon, late clerk in the Standard Insurance Company* was arrested for embezzling money belonging to the Company. - Hotel Burned. Invercargill, To-day.; , The Fairfax Hotel, near ; O taut an, occupied by Thomas Price, was burned down last night. The loss is estimated at LIjBOO. Only a few things vflere saved. The insurances amount to LSOO. It is believed the fire was caused by a defective chimney. ,
