THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS’ NEW ZEALAND TOUR.

The Australian team arrived at the Bluff early yesterday morning, and commenced their first match in New Zealand against twenty-two of Invercargill shortly after one o’clock. The twentytwo went first to the wickets, to the bowling of Spofforth and Palmer, which was superb, and the fielding was equal to it, only one case of muff having been apparent during the whole innings. In an exceedingly short space of time every Invercargill wicket went down before the “ demon ” and his mate, only five out of the twenty-two ; having been caught; and only 43 runs were totalled by the Southland host. Then the twenty-two took the field,to .struggle with the famous batsmen, an/jlatfi p.m. Jarvis (15), Spofforth (33), Murdoch (40), M'Donnell Alexander (3), Boyle (o), had been disposed of, leaving the not outs Groube (3) and Slight (14), with extras (10) —the whole innings reaching up to 154 for six wickets. Play was to be resumed to-day, if the weather were favorable, but rain fell heavily over night.
