PORT OF LYTTELTON. Arrived. * To-day. Te Ahau, 8.5., from Melbourne, via the South. Otaki, ship, from London. Sailed. Yesterday. Taiaroa, s.s., for Wellington and Northern Ports. Oreti, s.s., for {Timaru, Oamani, and Dunedin. Seabird, brigantine, for Pelorus Sound. Stella, 0.G.5., for Wellington. Maud Graham, schooner, for Waitara. Arrival of the Otaki. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s ship Otaki, from London, arrived at Lyttelton this morning, 105 days out. One pafflenger and the second steward died of consumption during the voyage. On .Dec- 26th and 27th a furious gale was experienced, during which a heavy sea was shipped, flooding the cabins to a depth of four-or- five feet. The captain s cabin was'completely wrecked, and most of the contents lost, including charts, books, Ac. Captain Davitt, the second officer, and an apprentice, while in the- poop, had a very narrow escape of being washed overboard. The captain was severly bruised and cut. The-carpenter was also much injured. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Auckland, Yesterday. The City of Sydney arrived from Sydney, and and sailed this afternoon for San Francisco. Dunedin, To-day. At the Heads—Auckland, ship, from London. Melbourne, Yesterday. The departure of the Tararua for New Zealand has been postponed until Saturday next.
