[by telegraph.] Blenheim, To-day. The new year was ushered in by a terrible fatality. About 12.30 on Saturday morning the house occupied by a bricklayer named ,Oaike caught fire and was soon burnt to the ground. When the fire was discovered Uaike was roused, and escaped in a blanWi.- tu charred remains of Mrs. "Daike were found under the kitchen floor. An inquest is being held to-day.
