(Per Reuter s Agency. ) A Shocking Murder, Sydney, Dec. 8. A shanty-keccper lias been murdered at. Albury by a sway man, who also attempted to murder the shanty-keeper’s daughter. Ho afterwards tired the hut for the purpose of concealing the crime. The murderer has been arrested. Recovering, Mr. Norton, who was shot at Dubbo, is steadily recovering.

To he Avenged. H.M. corvette Emerald, belonging to the Australian squadron, has left for the Soloman Group, in order to avenge the murder of the commander and several of the crew of H.M. schooner Sandfly. The Sorata. Melbourne, To-day. The Orient Company's steamship Sorata has arrived from Adelaide. The Education Struggle in Victoria. In the Legislative Assembly last night the Estimates were again dealt with. On the educational vote being proposed, Sir John O’Shannassy made a strong attack on the educational system, and opposed the passage of the vote. Mr. Murray Smith also spoke on the question, and favored the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into the best means for redressing the grievances of the Roman Catholics under the present system of public instruction. It is announced that the services of Colonel Scratchley are to he retained by the Victorian Government for another year. The Intercolonial Conference.

The Queensland and Tasmanian Governments have agreed to send delegates to the Intercolonial Conference when it meets again in Sydney in January.
