The following were represented ; —Cabinetmakers, portmanteau makers, fmetal workers, shoemakers, cordial manufacturers, varnish makers, brush makers, aud others. : A Brief Command. Lieutenant Bowen, who commanded H.M.S. Sandfly, and was killed, as reported in Reuter’s telegrams, was appointed from H.M.S. Danae, while in .Auckland, to succeed Lieutenant Horne, appointed Sergeant-at-Arms. Recognised. The Auckland Tattersall’s Club has been recognised by the Racing Club. Gold. Gold has been struck bn Waitoki Creek, three miles north of Te Aroha. Fire. Wellington, To-day. 1 An unoccupied cottage, containing .five rooms, in Sussex square, owned by a man named Turner, a night-watchman, was destroyed by fire this morning. The origin of the fire is unknown. The building was insured in the South British for L6O. A stable behind the cottage was partially burnt. The insurance is unknown. His Last Voyage. Invercargill, To-day. ■ Captain Copping, master of the Hobart, Town whaler Aladdin, whopvaa injured off the West Cape three weeks ago, died in the hospital yesterday.
