The police have ascertained that Brown, the shipping clerk’ on tha wharf, who died suddenly on Saturday, from supposed excessive drinking; purchased poison from Mr. King chemist. At Clyde, on Friday, a man named Ballantj ne was charged with indecency before a girl aged tea years, and the Bench sentenced him to six months in the Dunedin Gaol , As the prisoner was being removed lie wrested hire self from the; attendant constable and seized the girl, saying—" I been, punished innocently, but t will now do- something, to be punished fora’ !
