GOOD, BOUNCER, GOOD !

Sir, —I was somewhat amused to see an advertisement in last evening’s Guardian , calling a meeting of the Fire Brigade to draft a programme for an entertainment in the Town Hall on Boxing night, since I knew that the Dramatic Society had engaged the hall for the same night, and had elected to pay double fee fop same instead of .conceding it (in terms of their contract with the Town Hall Company). On my applying to the Secretary of the Company. I was informed that no authority or permission had been given to the Brigade to appropriate that night, but that he (the Secretary) had received inr structions from the company to forward a letter to the Dramatic Society, asking them kindly to waive their claim to either Boxing night or Hew Year’s night (both of which nights had been engaged by that society) in favor of the Brigade. Hot having ar yet received this letter, and the Brigade not having been informed of any concession as yet, I considered, and still think it a piece of unwarrantable impudence and arrogance on the part of the Brigade’s official to so advertise —more especially as Hew Year’s night had previously, by resolution of the Dramatic Sopiefy at their meeting, been conceded to the Brigade nearly a fortnight ago. This system of bounce is not calculated to smooth matters, which I feel sure could be done by a little judicious action on the part of the Brigade. “Bounce” may, and is sometimes a very good dog, but in this instance ho has followed dogs of a wiser breed, and made a grand mistake—in fact, scored one point for his opponent. —lam, «fec., Secretary, A,D.O.
