Ashburton Guardian Office, Wednesday afternoon. The first of the series of Canterbury wool sales for the season 18S0-81 took place yesterday afternoon, Messrs. Matson and Co. conducting the opening sale, at the Canterbury Wool Stores. , 700 bales were catalogued, and there was a good attendance at the sale,_ the bidding being spirited, and prices obtained comparing favorably with those obtained at the opening of the 1879-S0 sales.
