Good Templart at Alford Forest. —Our Alford Forest correspondent writes :—On Friday evening last a lodge of Good Templars was instituted here by Bro. K. Sando, of Ashburton. It numbers 25 members already, and _ others have signified their intention of joining. An interesting address was given by Bro. Sando, illustrative of the advantages of temperance, the most striking feature being that if the three millions spent annually in drink were saved, the colony would be free from debt in ten years. He also showed to some extent what land might be cultivated, and how many homesteads might flourish with the three millions thus squandered. A hearty vote of thanks was passed with acclamation. The funds are in a healthy state, and it is the intention of the members to order a complete set of regalia at no very distant date.
