The Dunedin Mayoralty-. —Messrs. H. S. Fish and A. H. Ross were nominated at Dunedin for the city mayoralty yesterday. Settling Day.— At the settling over the late races to-day, the stakes paid were :—Stead, L 1,521 ; Horsford, L43G ; Lance, L 304 ; Butler, L 95 ; Matthews, L 95 ; Mason, LB7 ; Westmacott, L 47 ; Goodman, L4O ; George, Ll 5 ; Fuller, LlO ; Franks, LlO ; total, L 2,663. The Mayoralty. —The requisition to Mr. Hugo Fritdlander, to allow himself to be nominated for another term of the Mayoral office, appears in another column. As will be seen his Worship has consented to stand, and there is every probability that there will be no contest. In fact, public opinion seems to be decided that Mi - . Friedlander ought to be allowed to occupy the seat of honor for another year undisturbed. Run Over at the Races. —A young man named Goodfellow was run over on tho racecourse yesterday by a horse ridden •by a man named McCallnm, and the result was a dislocated shoulder. McCall um had been heard to threaten the young follow, and he was taken into custody ( Tips ryas the only accident at the races. St. Stephen’ 9 Church.— A tea meeting, followed by a concert, will be given in the Town’Hall on the evening of the Show day—Tuesday next —the proceeds of which will be devoted to the Church fund, and to the fund for repairing the parsonage. At the concert some singers, altogether new to Ashburton audiences will'appear, and a great treat is expected. The General Handicapper. —At the meeting to-day of the Christchurch, Dunedin, and jjawko’s ijay Jockey Clubs re a general handicapped foy fho colony, it was resolved to postpone action until autumn, as various chibs have made arrangements for the present season. Respecting the Turf Register, it was resolved to guarantee Mr. EUiott, the former publisher, the cost of publishing future editions. The Ameteuk Dramatic Club.—On the Race nights, next week, the Amateur Dramatic Society mean to excel every effort to please that they Jiavc. yet put forth, and selected for performance a piece which they have had in rehearsal for a long time—“ The Duel in the Snow.” Into tin's piece they have thrown all their energy,'seeing thap large audiences may be expected, and of a kind loss likely to ho lenient than those matje up wholly of their follow townsmen ; and wo may look ■fop a vpod result of the Society being put upon its bast planners. Train Arrangements. The train arrangements and fares for the shows at Ashburton and Oamaru, and for the Ashburton races, are advertised in this issue.

Primitive Methodist Church. —Tomorrow the anniversary services of the Ashburton Primitive Methodist Church will be preached—in the m. ruing and afternoon by the Rev. W. Keall, and in the evening by the Rev. A. J, Smith, pastor of the Church.

Tea Meeting. —ln celebration of the Ashburton Primitive Methodist anniversary, a tea meeting is to be held on Tuesday next, show day, in the Primitive Methodist Chapel. This meeting will afford the many farmers and others in the country who belong to the Primitives an opportunity of being present at the annual reunion, as the meeting held on the show day makes it convenient for them to attend. After tea, the usual public meeting will be held, at which addresses will be delivered by several clergymen and others, and anthems sung by the choir, which has been strengthened for the occasion.
