No Oath. —In France, since the abolition of the Empire, no oath has been administered to the legislators, nor is there any formality as an equivalent. Here the lecturer’s voice was drowned by shouts of laughter. A Torpedo fob Crows. —A Californian has invented a torpedo in the shape of a kernel of corn, which is designed for the beguilement of festive crows. As soon as the offensive crow takes hold of it it explodes and blows the top of his head off. Plain Language. —" When a Kentucky legislator appeals from the decision of. the Speaker, he never uses, such ambiguous language as “ I most respectfully appeal from the ruling of the chair,” No ; he remarks in the simple language of the south-west, “ Look hyar, yer pig-headed snipe! Wat I'argers ken back up. Draw yer weepins if yer ker to ; but if yer don’t back water on that ee’r decision down yer. go in yer tracks ! D’ye hear me ?”
