’ (Per Reuter's Agency 4 ) Fall in New Zealand dtock.

London, October 6. New Zealand Securities are falling, today’s quotations being—s per cent. 1040 loan, 1021 ; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 1021, ; 4th per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 94f (?). Trickett and Hanlon. There is a good deal of interest being taken in the forthcoming race between Trickett and Hanlon, and the latter is the favourite in the betting, at 6 to 4 on him. The Irish Outrage s. Agarian outrages continue to occur frequently in various parts of Ireland. One of a serious nature was committed to-day near Bantry. A landlord was driving into that town in a carriage, when he was fired at by a party of men. The shots missed the intended victim, but the coachman was shot dead in his seat. Exchequer Bonds. London, Oct. 19. A petition has been presented to Government by a number of brokers and agents urging the conversion of registered exchequer bonds to encourage small investors and trustees. The Dulcigno Question. Constantinople, Oct. 18. The delegates appointed by the Powers and Turkey to arrange for the cession of Dulcigno have met at Cettinge, in Montenegro, and have commenced their deliberations. The Basutos get Another Defeat. Capetown, Oct. 18. A telegram has been received announcing another defeat of the Basutos. The latter had invested Mafeling in largo force, when the Cape Mounted Rifles, under Carrington, made a desperate attack on them, and succeeded in completely dispersing them, Afghan Intelligence. Calcutta, Oct. 18. News has been received from Afghanistan that, in accordance with instructions from India, Kurrum Valley has been evacuated by the troops which were stationed there. Intelligence also comes to hand that caravans are daily arriving at Candahar from Herat, the road between the two cities having been opened.

AUSTRALIAN. (Per Reuter's Agency.) The 1 Treasury Bonds. Melbourne, Oct. 19. The subscriptions for the Treasury bonds amount to L 2,000,000. Allotments will be announced to-morrow. The highest tenderer is the Bank of New South Wales. The Exhibition. After due consideration it has been decided not to open the Exhibition at night. Shipping. Sailed —Ringarooma for the Bluff. The Melbourne Cup. Melbourne Oct. 20. Mata's price for the Cup is now 100 to 6. Re-instatement of Dismissed Officials. Murray Smith intends in the Assembly to challenge the action of Goverment in regard to the re-instatement of certain dismissed officials.

NEW ZEALAND (Per Presss Asoociation.) A German Warship. Auckland, Oct. 20 Arrived—Jenie, German warship, from the Islands. Stud Sale. The Auckland Stud Company have sold the pure Clydesdale entire, Prince Arthur, to some Opotiki settlers. Auckland Harbor. The Harbor Board have received a numerously signed petition in favor of establishing a fish-market, which has been referred to the Working Committee. The question of constructing a dock of sufficient accommodation for the largest vessel, was discussed by the Harbor Board and referred to the Works Committee. Two offers of sites have been received at Calliope Point. The cost of interest and to provide a sinking fund is variously estimated at from two to six shillings extra per ton to importers. Synodical. The Diocesan Synod have agreed to place all Sunday Schools and the appointment of teachers under the control of ministers of parishes ; also to refer disagreements between clergymen and vestries to a standing committee. A motion that all ay office-bearers should be communicants, was rejected. Chinese Gamblers, Dunedin, Oct. 20. A number of informations against the Chinese for fan-fan playing at Lawrence have been dismissed. The Astronomer, Mr. Proctor, in concluding his series of lectures, announced his intention of returning to Dunedin and delivering two more lectures on “ Comets.” Fire. A three-roomed cottage in South Dunedin, belonging to Thomas Healey, was burned down last night. It was insured for £2OO, but in which office is not known.
